About

Diego Flauzino | Artist

Trained as a marketing and communication, having worked in the Advertising industry for ten years, Diego used lockdown to rediscover and develop his love of ceramics.

Born and raised in Brasilia, Diego's work, is influenced by the world he inhabits. Distilled and refined.

A series of sculptures takes its inspiration from the favelas of Brazil. Simple sculptures reduced to their essence. Never ending staircases, the play of light and shadow, glimpses out through roughly punched windows, inhabited by a single perfect urn. These are not doll's houses, these are houses for the soul.

Another Series of 'vases' are inspired by and are a play on the 'futuristic' buildings of Brasilia designed by Oscar Niemeyer and inhabited by 'The Jetsons'. Diego's vases, like Niemeyer's buildings, have accentuated features. Elongated swan like necks and bulging stomachs these pieces are both playful and serene.

Diego's works are both sculptural and functional. Plates and bowls are intended to be used everyday, a joy to see, to touch and to serve food on or fill with flowers and the finish of each piece is carefully considered.

Glazing techniques are researched, understood and experimented using primordial glazes. The finishes enhancing and not detracting from the essence of the piece and in the spirit of "Wabi-Sabi" imperfections are not only accepted but accentuated.
